Outstanding academic achievements
The Syrian American Academics Society (SAAS) congratulates Dr. Reem Heikal, Professor of Law at Texas Southern University, on a series of prestigious academic achievements that reflect her scientific and academic excellence, as well as her prominent presence in leading educational institutions worldwide.
Dr. Reem Haikal received the “Professor of the Year” award at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, selected and voted on by graduating third-year students — an achievement of particular significance as it represents direct recognition from her students themselves, and for the second consecutive year.
Since joining the faculty in 2022, she has taught several core courses, including:

▪️ Criminal Procedure
▪️ Property Law
She has also distinguished herself through her scholarly contributions in the fields of criminal law, constitutional law, and the death penalty. Her research has addressed issues related to executive discretion and the arbitrary application of capital punishment.
In another notable academic accomplishment, Dr. Reem Haikal earned first place at the 2026 Research Week at Texas Southern University in the category of Social, Behavioral, Educational, Business, and Policy Sciences Research, further underscoring her research excellence and active role in advancing legal studies and academic scholarship.
